Professionals from all sectors of the food, nutrition and health space have been urging consumers for decades to include more fiber in their diet. Despite all the attention and buzz around healthy food in general, and fiber in particular, most consumers fall short in including enough fiber in their diets.
Although there is growing evidence for the need to increase our fiber intake, and a considerable consumer awareness around the importance of dietary fiber, only a relatively small proportion of consumers eat the recommended amount of daily fiber and a ‘fiber gap’ persists. This is concerning for health experts in clinical practice, public health, and academic realms and even the World Health Organization (WHO).
