December 12, 2022

On December 1st, the Sensus-DKSH workshop ‘Food Health Claims: Chicory Inulin Fiber’ was organised in Bangkok (Thailand). It evolved around Sensus’s new Thai authorized health claim for chicory inulin or oligofructose to increase bifidobacteria in the intestine.

The managing director of DKSH, Mr Mathias Gregor, introduced the workshop. The opening lecture was presented by Mr Lertchai Lertvut, the director of the Food Division of the Thai FDA outlined the ‘New Food – New Future’ opportunities for Thai FDA including revision of food regulations, the digital future and sustainability aspects, and Ms Wipada Singkriahan, of the Thai FDA regulatory department subsequently described the health claim procedure. Dr Elaine Vaughan, leading Sensus health science and regulatory affairs, outlined the (latest) science around chicory inulin and intestinal bifidobacteria in the human gut microbiome promoting human health, and Sing Sing Tiong presented the top key trends in food nutrition and health for 2023 clarifying the significant role that inulin can play in consumer requests. Importantly, DKSH explained to the participants from various food manufacturers how to use/register the food health claim using Frutafit® inulin and Frutalose® oligofructose in their food applications.

Many thanks again to the speakers, participants, and Sensus and DKSH colleagues, for an inspiring workshop.
