Boost fiber intake with FibreFebruary

UK research has shown that more than 90% of the UK consumers do not meet the recommended daily fiber intake of 30g. As bread is an important source for fiber intake the UK bread industry wants to address the importance of fiber. February is therefore turned into FibreFebruary.

Dietary fiber is worldwide acknowledged for its positive effects on health and well-being. The benefits include positive effects on bowel habit and a favorable effect on fermentation in the colon. Also dietary fibers may cause reduction of blood LDL-cholesterol levels and an improvement of blood glucose and insulin levels, and thus stimulate heart health. Additionally they can curb appetite. Dietary fibers are therefore essential in our daily food but our diets rarely contain enough of them.

With the campaign #FibreFebruary the industry wants to increase the awareness about the benefits of fiber among UK consumers and take out the misperception about taste and texture. The campaign is led by the Flour Advisory Bureau (FAB) and includes a range of activities, like media events, recipe development and social media.
