US consumer insight into sugar reduction

February 26, 2024

Reducing sugar intake is still a priority for many Americans, with 1 in 3 of US consumers indicating that they plan to reduce their sugar consumption in the coming years. According to a recent Sensus consumer survey, 52% of US consumers actively seek out sugar-reduced products when shopping, with 60% of millennials being particularly conscious of their sugar intake.

This trend is driven by growing awareness of the health risks associated with excessive sugar consumption, including obesity, diabetes, and heart disease. Data shows that 3 in 5 US consumers make healthy food choices to address health concerns. 84% of the consumers read the product information on the packaging of food products, namely for the ingredients (67%), the added sugar content (56%) and the calorie content (55%).

It’s clear that consumers are increasingly looking for healthier options when it comes to food and beverages. By offering sugar-reduced products that are both delicious and nutritious, food manufacturers can tap into this growing demand and provide consumers with the products they want. Chicory root fiber can be used as a substitute for sugar and fat, resulting in a healthier and more nutritious product, without losing taste and texture.
